Later this year, Rockstar Games will be releasing next-gen versions of Grand Theft Auto Online and Grand Theft Auto 5, and between that and ongoing support for games like Red Dead Online, it must have its hands full. Rockstar Games is apparently making these moves so that it can focus its attention on its newer games.

#MAX PAYNE 3 SPEEDRUN WORLD RECORD PS3#
Meanwhile, Grand Theft Auto Online on PS3 and Xbox 360 is getting shut down on December 16, with players losing the ability to purchase microtransactions in the legacy versions of the game starting September 15. Noire's online services are also getting the boot. Besides Max Payne 3's online getting shut down, L.A. Max Payne 3 isn't the only Rockstar Games title losing its online support on September 16. This shouldn't have a big impact on the Max Payne 3 speedrunning community, but it's still a disappointment for anyone that still likes to play the game online. This means that Max Payne 3's online multiplayer mode will no longer be accessible, and neither will its associated Rockstar Games Social Club features. Rockstar Games has announced that it is shutting down Max Payne 3's online services come September 16. Regardless, the attempts should bring some more attention to Max Payne 3 itself, which is nice since the game's online services are actually being shut down in the relatively near future. It's possible that the previous title holder will take another shot at it, or maybe someone else will throw their hat in the ring.

It remains to be seen how long Summit1g's Max Payne 3 speedrun world record will last.
